Melbourne, VIC: New train runs-through level crossing, service cuts implemented

18 Jan

One of V/Line’s new VLocity trains ran-through the Progress Street level crossing in Doveton on January 15th, 2016 without triggering the automatic operation of lights and barriers. As a result the Velocity fleet is undergoing additional inspection and remedial works to allow a return to service of the Bombardier built trains. Meanwhile their operation over the tracks in the Melbourne metropolitan area has been suspended. This is additional to wheel-wear issues that culled 25% of the fleet from service pending remedial work on the affected wheelsets.

The continuing impact has led to a temporary timetable from January 19th, 2016. This includes coaches replacing many services on the Geelong, Ballarat, Bendigo and Gippsland lines.
