Ufton Nervet: Level crossing elimination under way

12 Dec

Network Rail has begun enabling works to allow the elimination of the Ufton Nervet automatic half-barrier level crossing at which a motorist took his own life and those of a train driver and five passengers in November 2004. Subsequently, four people have lost their life on this level crossing.

Now, Network Rail is moving the memorial garden to those killed in the 2004 accident to a site north of the railway to enable work to build the replacement road-over-rail bridge to begin March 2016. It is expected that the construction of the bridge and closure of the level crossing will occur about a year later.
