Lapanga, India: 14 killed in unmanned crossing collision

A collision between a passenger train and a SUV on an unmanned level crossing near Lapanga, Jharkhand, caused the death of 14 road vehicle occupants, including seven children. The accident occurred shortly after 9.30pm on December 7th, 2015. An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident is ongoing. Meanwhile, compensation of INR 20,000 (GBP 200) is being paid from State funds. As is usual, Indian Railways will not compensate victims of accidents at unmanned level crossings
