Melbourne, VIC: New trains linked to increased crossing closure times

22 Sep

New trains on Melbourne’s Frankston line are cited as the reason for an increase in the time between the initiation of the crossing closure sequence and the arrival of the train. The new Experian trains are faster resulting in closure time extensions of between one and 15 seconds at most level crossings on the Frankston line. This has attracted media interest on the impact of these changes on pedestrian and vehicular traffic against the background of the disruption arising as a result of the committed and planned implementation of 11 level crossing elimination projects along the Frankston line rail corridor.
