Staines, UK: Councillors vote against crossing closure

14 May

Network Rail’s plans to permanent;y close the Moor Lane level crossing footpath in Staines on safety grounds have been thwarted. With fatalities in 2003 and 2008 plus limited sighting, the negative stance taken by Spelthorne councillors is putting the access to Staines Moor Common first; whereas, Network Rail maintains the crossing should be closed on safety grounds.

While the Councillors, voting against their officers’ recommendations, did not deliver the required extinguishment order, the crossing remains closed as Network Rail has previously successfully obtained authority for a temporary closure on  safety grounds.

The flood arch/span for Wraysbury River ideally located to divert the path under the railway. Problem solved
