Bhilai, India: Illegal structures delay grade-separation project

12 May

There is significant unease that the project to eliminate the Maroda level crossing in Bhilai, Chhattisgarh State is delayed by more than a year. This delay has arisen as action to remove illegal structures and their residents from the land required to construct the authorised road-over-rail bridge has yet to be taken. Some of the illegally occupied site is within the orbit of the municipality while other structures are on railway land.

A spokesperson from the municipality has said that this matter has not been progressed as they had been dealing with other matters. The spokesperson added that the municipal administration are soon to press ahead, in conjunction with Indian Railways to remove the squatters and their illegal homes.
