Louisville, KY: Eleven crossings in line for an upgrade

30 Apr

Approvals have ben granted that will allow 11 level crossings in Jefferson County to be upgrade by the addition of half-barriers. However, funding these upgrades is not assured as there are presently 62 level crossings in line for funding. The hard financial facts are that the addition of barriers can cost USD250,000 whereas the State only has a budget of USD1.8 million available.

The 11 crossings that have been approved in Jefferson County are those on Buechel Avenue/ Crawford Avenue, Catalpa Street, Dixie Highway, Gagel Avenue, Greenwood Avenue (where there have been four collisions resulting in two deaths), Hale Avenue, Ralph Avenue, Wilson Avenue, Woodland Avenue, 25th Street and on 28th Street.
