Farnborough, UK: Crossing misuse prompts review of all options

8 Apr

The Principal of Farnborough Sixth Form College principal says that the footpath level crossing at Farnborough North railway station needs to be replaced by a footbridge to improve safety. The call, made in the context of discussions with Network Rail, reflects the continuing misuse through ignoring the warning lights provided at the level crossing.

While there is agreement that elimination is appropriate, there are land ownership issues that need to be resolved if a footbridge is to be constructed. Therefore, it is appropriate that other options are considered. The history of misuse has led to greater education and enforcement led initiatives to prompt safer behaviours. Many of these initiatives have been triggered by the Sixth Form College as several hundred of their students use the crossing twice-daily during term time.
