Rossington, UK: Plans for controversial bridge put on hold

17 Mar

network Rail has responded to community concerns and agreed to put plans for a road-over-rail bridge on hold. The plans for the bridging of the railway to allow closure of the Rossington CCTV equipped manually controlled crossing of the East Coast Main Line (ECML)railway.

With a petition garnering more than 800 signatures of those opposed to plans for a bridge, Network Rail is now going to wait for completion of the Finningley And Rossington Regeneration Route Scheme (FARRRS)later this year. Then, the impact on road traffic flows will be assessed to determine the need for a  second bridge over the railway as the FARRRS project is itself bridging the railway less than a mile from that in Rossington to which there has been such opposition.
