Halifax, UK: Footpath diversions to improve safety

17 Mar

Network Rail is working with Calderdale Council and other parties to secure an agreement that will allow two public footpaths to be diverted and allow two level crossings to be eliminated. Both of the level crossings at Lower Brear, Hipperholme, and at Lightcliffe Golf Course have a substantive accident history.

The proposals have been developed following the December 13th, 2014 death of a 16-year old on the Hipperholme level crossing and that of a 39-year-old woman on December 29th, 2014. A Coronial Inquest has determined that the first of these was an accidental death. Previously, a 67-year-old pensioner was killed when he was hit by a train on the level crossing at Lightcliffe Golf Course
