Jalandhar, India: Truck collides with crossing users: two killed, others injures

An overloaded truck collided with level crossing users waiting at a manned level crossing in Jalandhar, Punjab, on March 14th, 2015. The accident occurred at the Tanda level crossing at about 07.50 with a cyclist waiting at the lowered barriers killed outright and two others injured. The second person to die was a 17-year-old who had gone to the assistance of those pushed into the path of the approaching train was struck and killed by the train.

It is clear from witness reports that the loaded truck was speeding and that the truck driver had lost control of his vehicle, which – it is reported – was overloaded. The truck driver fled from the scene of the accident.
