Wem, UK: Residents up in arms about barrier arms up in air

12 Mar

Residents of Wem continue to voice concerns that the automatic level crossing which has replaced the manually controlled crossing is unsafe. This was the line being taken at a public meeting held to discuss what should be done. The latest ‘failure’ of the level crossing was when the barriers failed to lower as they had struck a badly positioned temporary road sign. Although Network Rail was represented at the public meeting and offered little but a statement that they remain willing to work with Shropshire County Council and the local community. This has done little to reassure residents who feel that the new crossing equipment installed in October 2013 is unsafe.
