Chappaqua, NY: Citations issued at Roaring brook Road level crossing

11 Mar

A motorist from a neighbouring community has been issued a summons for obstruction of the Roaring Brook Road level crossing in Chappaqua, The woman was travelling towards the west when her car was stopped in traffic when the lights activated and a barrier came down on her car. She then reversed clear of the crossing. The incident occurred at about 10.50 on March 7th, 2014.

Amazingly, while police remained in attendance at the crossing, two further motorists were issued with citations for offences at the level crossing.

What’s really amazing is the fact that we still expect people to behave as if they were machines. We need to waken up and design in accordance with how people really behave. We need to understand why, for instance, this woman got into the fankle she did. After all, it will happen to you …

This level crossing could and should have been eliminated decades ago. It is a level crossing that I have used from time to time – most recently in January – and agree with you that there are bigger issues that should be concerning the municipality and Metro North Railroad. I do not like using this crossing!
