East Tilbury, UK: Despite level crossing, more new homes proposed

12 Jan

Concerns have been raised that Thurrock Council is continuing to grant planning permission for new homes in East Tilbury despite the only access being via the level crossing on Princess Margaret Road. With approval in December for 50 new homes to add to the additional 300 arising from a three-year-old planning consent.

However, there is said to be light at the end of the tunnel as discussions with Network Rail are said to be progressing. However, as the planning gain of 350 new homes, representing about a 20% increase in housing stock, the costs associated with access to East Tilbury must not be seen as solely the responsibility of Network Rail to fund the provision of alternative grade-separated access to East Tilbury.
