6 Jan

The Planning Inspectorate has backed the closure of the Mexico Inn public footpath level crossing near Penzance for safety reasons. Following a fatality in 2011, Network Rail secured a temporary closure on safety grounds in 2012 as proposed by the coroner. However, the case for permanent closure was contested with the result that an inquiry was held in October 2014, Objections came from local and other activists opposed to the diversionary route and loss of amenity if the crossing were to be closed.
