Tunis, Tunisia: Level crossing film shown at Carthage Film Festival

5 Dec

The short film “level crossing”, a meditative film about the loneliness of a level crossing keeper, by Algerian director Anis Djaad, was screened on December 1st, 2014 in the competition of the 25th Carthage Film Festival (JCC), held in Tunis.

This is the second work of the director, after “Le Hublot” (The window) also presented at the 24th JCC, this 23mn film shows the dreary and repetitive life of an old employee –Rachid Ben Allal– assigned to securing, day or night, a level crossing in an Algerian village and who one day receives a mysterious letter that will change his habits.

With very little dialogue and scenes that show the contrast between the immensity of the landscape around the station and reduces the modest character, the director intends to transmit to the viewer the isolation of this old man, whose only link with the outside world is to respond to calls announcing the imminent arrival of a train.
