The South Coast Rail project in Massachusetts is moving ahead with a Department of Transportation contract with LM Heavy Civil Construction valued at USD18.4 million for major level crossing improvements in Taunton, Freetown and New Bedford.

The most significant works are the replacement of the level crossings on:

  • Dean and Arlington Streets in Taunton
  • Elm, High and Copicut streets in Freetown
  • Nash Road in New Bedford

Ten other level crossings will receive upgrades.

Start of work is imminent and may take up to two years to complete as part of the USD2.3 billion 55 mile project from Fall River and New Bedford via Stoughton to Boston’s South Station.
