Mumbai, India: Crossing closures delayed four years

3 Nov

Completion of a project to bridge the railway in two places and eliminate the Jogeshwari Station and Oshiwara level crossings in the Mumbai suburbs has been revised for the fourth time. Now, completion of the project has been put back to June 2015. Originally, the grade-separation project was scheduled for completion in March 2011.

The latest delays have been triggered by problems relating to the relocation of 89 businesses and a general slowing of the political processes as a result of both state and national elections earlier this year.

When finished the bridges over the railway and associated highway works will provide an effective link between the Western Express Highway and SV Road. plans for relocated businesses to be sited under the elevated highway
