Mountsorrel, UK: Permanent closure to follow a six-year temporary closure

3 Nov

Network Rail has taken a decision to pursue the permanent closure of a level crossing, more than six years after it was temporarily closed as a result of safety concerns. Now, a public consultation has been initiated to explain why it has not proved possible to reinstate the Mountsorrel, Near Loughborough, level crossing with an acceptable level of safety. Those who attended the meeting convened by Network Rail want to see a grade-separated pedestrian route across the railway at the site of the erstwhile level crossing as well as an effective diversionary route for other traffic.
