Wolfenschliessen, Switzerland: Litigation likely as families visit crossing where three Israelis were killed

20 Oct

The families of the three Israeli citizens killed on a passive level crossing in Wolfenschiessen on August 11th, 2014 have visited the scene of the fatal accident. Clearly, there is anger that the planned installation of lights and barriers at this level crossing had been delayed. progress with this and similar schemes is awaiting a Cantonal budget decision, due on October 22nd, 2014.

Meanwhile a lawyer representing the victims’ families has indicated that compensation of CHF1.0 million or more is appropriate. as the railway company had not taken all reasonable steps to mitigate risk at this level crossing. As might be expected, the Zentral Bahn has not commented on the specifics of the case. Rather, it has indicated that it has upgraded 68 level crossings and is working on projects that will over time address the risk prevailing at a further 67 level crossings.
