Katherine, NT: Pick-up pushed onto bridge

truck-trainA freight train ploughed into a pick-up truck near Katherine at about 01.00 on October 13th, 2014. The train then pushed the wreckage about 500 metres, ending-up on the railway bridge over the Katherine River. According to NT Police, the driver of the 4×4 pick-up truck had attempted to cross the railway where there isn’t a level crossing. The train driver is being treated for shock while the driver of the errant road vehicle escaped without injury before the collision. According to media reports an attempt was then made to warn the train driver of the obstruction using torches. The 23-year-old motorist is being interviewed by NT Police officers.
