Normans Bay, UK: Residents oppose crossing upgrade

29 Aug

Residents of Normans Bay, near Bexhill, Sussex remain opposed to the Network Rail project that is upgrading a manually controlled crossing closed to road traffic between 22.00-07.00 with a CCTV equipped crossing controlled remotely from the signalling centre at Three Bridges.

The road concerned is one which has not been publicly adopted and is maintained by those benefiting from its existence. The residents concerned maintain that they will be less safe when using the level crossing and that their security will be reduced if the crossing is, in future, open 24/7.

The new crossing equipment has largely been installed and is inoperative pending the upgrading of the roadway either side of the crossing to improve the profile. No date has been set for the switch from local manual control to remote CCTV control.
