Huntly, VIC: Solar powered level crossing commissioned

22 Aug

The Victoria State Government’s AUD47 million “Fix Country Crossings” project has funded the installation of a solar powered level crossing at Huntly on the line linking Bendigo with Echuca.

Victoria’s Minister for Public Transport, Terry Mulder, has said using solar power could be the perfect solution to upgrading where mains power would be costly to connect.

The pilot installation at Huntly will be monitored and, if successful, solar power will be used for other remote locations. Powered by 18 solar panels, the overall cost of the solar system was approximately AUD100,000; about 25% less than providing mains power at this location
