Bangalore, India: Fatal collision with earthmover

A person travelling was killed and the driver of an earthmover was severely injured when the vehicle collided with a train on an unmanned level crossing between Odarahalli and Doddballapur station, near Bangalore. the accident happened at about 13.05 on July 26th, 2014. The train’s locomotive fared badly in the collision but no one travelling on the train was hurt.

There are presently 445 unmanned level crossings in Karnataka, although Indian Railways has plans to eliminate them all by the end of 2015. This will be achieved through upgrading about 100 of them, consolidation and use of existing manned level crossings, diversion over other existing routes and grade-separation.
