Northern Ireland: Level crossings are not a priority addressed in 20-year rail strategy.

Northern Ireland’s Department for Regional Development long-term strategy for the development of the province’s railway system has been widely commended. However, there has been criticism that the strategy does not properly address the issue of level crossings on today’s rail network. For example, that on William Street in Lurgan which, locally, is seen as a perennial problem. Well, if the provincial government doesn’t see level crossings as an issue and neither do those responding to the consultation on the rail strategy, are they a highways or planning authority issue?
