Jaunpur, India: Politician and two others killed in collision on unmanned crossing

A Minister of State in the Uttar Pradesh state government was killed along with two others after the car in which they were travelling was hit by a train on an unmanned level crossing in Line Bazar, Jaunpur District. The accident occurred at about 10.15 on May 19th, 2014 as a result of the car stalling while crossing the railway.

The accident led to a demonstration in which police were stoned as local people vented their fury that yet another fatal accident had occurred on this level crossing and that it had neither been upgraded or replaced by a bridge or underpass.
