Ashtead, UK: Bridge on the cards, but beyond the means of Network Rail alone

Network Rail has said that it would like to see the manually controlled, CCTV equipped, level crossing in Ashtead, Surrey, replaced by a bridge. The company has said that a bridge would need to be at a different location within Ashtead and that a solution is not one that Network Rail alone can deliver on both grounds of costs and the wider nature of the project. Network Rail recognises that it is unusual to have such a large area dependent on access via a single route, in this case the level crossing.
