Bulwell, UK: Awareness-raising event at misused crossing

Users of Bulwell Forest manually controlled barrier with CCTV equipped level crossing near Nottingham were reminded of the importance of using level crossings safely at an awareness-raising event held on February 12th, 2014

In 2013, British Transport Police (BTP) recorded 24 cases of pedestrians trespassing on the crossing after the warning sequence had begun. Two motorists were reported for careless driving and 28 for failing to conform with the red lights,

    Sounds like designers have failed to account for normal human behaviour, but we don’t know because the article doesn’t address the question, “Why?”

      The issues at this crossing are very much to do with user impatience. Why didn’t the story address design issues – because I don’t have the time to research every detail about the crossing.
