City of Lincoln planners have conditionally approved the construction of a pedestrian over-bridge to address the endemic issues associated with pedestrian misuse of the manually controlled full-barriers with CCTV surveillance High Street level crossing.

The case for the new bridge is that by providing an always available over-bridge, pedestrians will no longer have the same incentive to misuse the level crossing. Given the urban context in which the over-bridge is to be built, it is of high quality and involves acquisition of two adjoining properties in order that they can be remodelled to allow construction of the new bridge which will have both stepped and lift access.

The new pedestrian over-bridge could be complete by the end of next year.
