Saxilby: United Kingdom: MP takes on Network Rail over Christmas closure

Sir Edward Leigh, the Conservative Member of Parliament for Gainsborough has taken Network Rail to task over the closure of a level crossing in Saxilby for two weeks over the Christmas-New Year holiday season. The work to upgrade the crossing is a component of the GBP280 million project to upgrade the GN-GE Joint Line as a major freight corridor to free-up capacity on the East Coast Main Line between Peterborough and Doncaster.

The MP has written to Network Rail in strong terms accusing the rail infrastructure manager of leaving the residents of West Bank cut-off for an extended period as there is no alternative road access to the West Bank area of Saxilby and has asked the company’s Chief Executive to intervene to save the West Bank residents being so inconvenienced over the Christmas-New Year season.

Network Rail has made plans have been made for emergency service access and also for refuse collections, However, residents will be expected to use a footbridge to access their cars and the outside world for two weeks from December 20th, 2013.
