Yarnton, United Kingdom: Woman detained under Mental Health Act

The woman whose car was hit by a train on the Sandy Lane automatic half-barrier (AHB) level crossing in Yarnton, Kidlington, near Oxford at about 16.30 on November 12th, 2013 has now been detained under the provisions of the Mental Health Act. The collision has been attributed to the woman stopping on the level crossing intending that her car was hit by a train. The woman was, although taken to hospital, not seriously injured in the collision.

The Sandy Lane AHB level crossing was the location of a fatal accident in January 2013 when an elderly motorist was killed.
