Witham, United Kingdom: Footbridge to replace footpath crossing

12 Nov

The Motts Lane footpath level crossing in Whitham, Essex, is to be replaced with a footbridge as a component of Network Rail’s commitment to reduce the risk associated with level crossings. Work is underway that will enable the bridge-span to be put in place at Christmas when there are no train services. Following further work, the footbridge is scheduled to be complete in March 2014 when the level crossing on which there was a fatal accident in January 2013 will be eliminated.

The project costing GBP2.3 million represents a major commitment of Network Rail and also Braintree Council which has invested GBP0.5 million.
