India: Train horns to be sounded continuously

1 Oct

India’s East Coast Railway is adding whistle Board’s at a distance of 250 metres before unmanned (passive) level crossings to support a requirement that train drivers sound the train horn continuously until they reach the level crossing. This is in addition to the boards at a distance of 600 metres which initiate the intermittent sounding of the train on during the train’s approach to the passive level crossing. The objective being to contribute to the reduction in harm arising at unmanned level crossings. This revised requirement is expected to be rolled out across Indian Railways as a whole.
