Brandon, United KIngdom: MPs call for return to a manned level crossing

20 Sep

Elizabeth Truss, MP for South West Norfolk, and Matthew Hancock, MP for West Suffolk, have called on Network Rail to reinstate staffing of Brandon’s level crossing as the crossing, upgraded in August 2012 is unreliable and causes extensive road traffic delays. The issue relates to the over-sensitivity of the installed obstacle detection equipment leading to the barrier being kept in a lowered position for extended periods. Although the crossing is CCYV equipped as well, delays have regularly attracted the attention of the local MPs whose constituencies are, in essence, divided by the railway at this point.

Network Rail has temporarily ceased using the obstacle detection equipment while it works to find a solution to the known problems. However, the Office of Rail Regulation has required Network Rail to reinstate it.
