Salisbury, South Australia: Council proposes a grade-separated solution

27 Aug

Salisbury Council has asked its staff to look at design options for a grade separation of the Park Terrace level crossing in order to improve both traffic flow and safety. An initial view on costs is that an underpass or road-over-rail bridge could cost AUD500 million. Locally it is recognised that the scheme can only move ahead if either state and/or federal funding is forthcoming.

The idea of a grade-separated solution is more than a decade old with initial consideration of the idea taking place in the aftermath of the fatal collision between a bus and a train on the Park Terrace on October 24th, 2002 claimed four lives.
