Hilton, Derbyshire, United Kingdom: Level crossing keeper air-lifted to hospital

22 Aug

A level crossing keeper was air-lifted to hospital after he was found seriously injured on the Egginton Road (A5132), Hilton, manually controlled level crossing in South Derbyshire at about 14.55 on August 20th, 2013. The Network Rail employee sustained serious head and chest injuries. The A5132 remains closed over the level crossing as investigations continue (August 22nd, 2013). A theory gaining traction is that the crossing keeper was knocked over by a car while closing a level crossing gate or as a result of a car first hitting the gate. However, this is still not independently substantiated. Network Rail is saying that its employee was injured in a road traffic accident.

Anyone with information should call British Transport police on 0800 405040 quoting reference 304 of August 20th, 2013.
