15 Aug

A passenger train that was approaching Albuquerque collided with a truck that had, for reasons unknown, stopped on a level crossing. The accident occurred at about 11.00 on August 14th, 2013 on the Prosperity Avenue SW level crossing and resulted in two people – understood to be the locomotive crew – being taken to hospital.

The train’s locomotive struck the rear of the articulated truck which was loaded with cars, three of which were thrown off the vehicle as a consequence of the collision which also damaged the locomotive. The Amtrak service eventually departed Albuquerque four hours late after a replacement locomotive was provided.
