Eastville, LInconshire: Inquest returns intentional death verdict

6 Aug

A Coroner’s Inquest has returned a verdict that a man who was killed when he was struck by a train on October 9th, 2012 on the level crossing adjacent to the former railway station in Eastgate, East Lindsey, took his own life. Evidence heard at the inquest included concerns that the mental health system had let the man down. However, the Coroner concluded that this did not constitute negligence. One of the facts to emerge was that the man had been detained by Police under the Mental Health Act at the same level crossing three months before taking his life. Following assessment by a new Police Surgeon, he was released as the doctor believed that he did not need to be sectioned under the Mental Health Act.
