Fife, Washington: pressure mounts for restoring route across railway

5 Aug

The 54th Avenue level crossing in Fife was “temporarily” closed in 2009 for safety reasons. Now, with extensive development to the south of the railway, there is increasing pressure for the direct link between two parts that otherwise have a two-mile detour. But, the deal is that the route can reopen if a grade-separated route across the railway can be built. However, first, the estimated USD 15 million project to construct an underpass has to be funded. As a recent public meeting shows, there is a will that the underpass will be built sooner rather than later as would be the case if the community wasn’t exerting pressure on officials and elected members of the council.
