Allahabad, India: North Central Railway announces elimination plans

29 Jul

India’s North Central Railway has announced plans to significantly reduce the number of level crossings of its infrastructure. Plans call for the construction in the current financial year of 100 grade-separated intersections as replacements for presently unmanned level crossings. This is an ambitious target as since 2003 only 60 grade-separations have been completed. However, the programme proposed going forward is in line with the strategic intent for railways India-wide.

The North Central Railway currently has 1,512 level crossings of which 493 are unmanned. Of the manned crossings, 527 have gates / barriers that are interlocked with the signalling system.
