Needham Market, United Kingdom: Angst at failure to close level crossing

23 Jul

Needham market Town Council has raised concerns that the Gipsy lane level crossing in Needham Market remains open a year after the Rail Accident Investigation Branch (RAIB) recommend closure. This recommendation went on to say that if consent to close was not secured, risk reduction measures should be put in place. So far Network Rail has imposed a 50 mph speed restriction on trains and has entered into discussions with Suffolk County Council. The RAIB investigation followed a fatal accident in 2011 in which an elderly pedestrian was killed.
