Peterborough, United Kingdom: GBP1.5 million footbridge at child death crossing

30 Apr

Network Rail is to invest GBP1.5million to provide a  footbridge which will allow the Fox Covert footpath level crossing in Peterborough to be eliminated. This is the level crossing at which a two-year-old was killed in 2009.

Preparatory work will begin in August 2013 with construction following in early 2014 to allow for the bridge to be in use by the end of March 2014. Fox Covert is one of 61 level crossings being either upgraded or eliminated between Peterborough and Doncaster (via Spalding-Sleaford-Lincoln-Gainsborough) as the route is modernised to cater for a higher volume of freight traffic diverted from the direct Peterborough-Doncater route.

How can we ensure that the foxes use it?

Maybe have instructions for the safe use of the crossing in fox speak (probably easier than interpreting railway speak for the lay person)?.
