Moorland, Iowa: Woman killed in level crossing collision

19 Apr

A woman was killed when the MPV in which she was travelling was hit by a railway locomotive on a passive level crossing near Moorland, Webster County, Iowa. The accident occurred at approximately 20.00 on April 18th, 2013 on the Hayes Avenue passive level crossing located adjacent to the intersection of Hayes Avenue and County Road D20 (Old Highway 20).

The Hayes Avenue level crossing is a skewed intersection which with the car travelling North and the locomotive East, would have put the approaching locomotive over the left shoulder of the motorist.

Prior to this accident, Union Pacific Railroad has run level crossing safety-awareness programmes in the Moorland area.
