Auckland, New Zealand: Risk review of all level crossings

Auckland Transport is to investigate the costs and benefits asssociated with improving levels of safety at all 48 level crossings in greater Auckland. This is a multi-year initiative for which funding will need to be put in place.

In February 2013, a woman was critically injured when her wheelchair got stuck in a flange-way gap leading to her being hit by a train.. This accident has increased the focus on level crossing risk reduction in and around the greater Auckland region.
