Queensland: New safety sytem trials later this year

It has been confirmed that trials of new level creossing safety systems will be trialled in Queensland later this year with AUD1.0 million of state funding. The money will be put towards installing solar-powered flashing lights and systems that detect an approaching train and informs drivers through a radio and visual monitor of the train’s presence.

The solar powered systems will be installed near Gatton and Rosewood while the radio break-in systems will be trialled at Dalby, Townsville and Charters Towers.

In 2012, there were approximately 400 near-missesrecorded on the Queensland rail network. with 177 occurring in regional Queensland.
